Hitting the Paris club scene can be an overwhelming duty, from the costs to the cues and finally the bar staff, amusement isn't always built in. The key to enjoying the bars in clubs in Paris is knowing exactly what type of night owl you are. For example, do you enjoy an ultra posh venue with selective door staff or a casual atmosphere and low price joint? Another pertinent question, did you come to Paris to be with the Parisians or with the tourists? It is not as easy to answer as one might think. I have spent the last two years in Paris, and it was only until recently that I discovered the nightlife of the true Parisians that doesn't drain the bank.

This past weekend, I was invited to check out a rock evening entitled 'Spoutnik Party' at le Divan du Monde. Upon arrival, I discovered DJ Christophe Crenel from OUI FM 102.3 mixing various popular rock and alternative tracks. The performance is definitely something not to be missed nor is the escape from the continuously looping pop/dance songs that have infected most discotheques. The location of the Divan du Monde dates back to the early 19th century. Although changing names a few times, the venue has always been an attraction and has held notable guests such as Pablo Picasso and Toulouse-Lautrec. The venue still holds a favorable reputation as the place to be for innovative music. Having recently received a makeover, the present Divan du Monde is impressive display of Gaudi fiction which plays well with its musical character.
Another unique attribute to the club, is their 'progammation 3D' concept. This can be explained by the 3 different zones ( 2 floors ) of the nightclub. When I visited the Divan du Monde, I was constantly entertained by a live DJ performance, a pair of large video screens, and a great sound system. On a side note, I was told that the sound level was kept down in order to stay within the noise restrictions of the neighborhood; therefore I didn't exit the nightclub deaf as post, brilliant!
So if you are in Paris and you feel like taking the chance to explore some areas off the beaten path, I would recommend le Divan du Monde located at 75, rue des Martyrs in the 9th arrondissement. Events, entrance fees, and hours vary so
